Yesterday I wrote about about how each of us should wake up today and write the history that we will look back on for years to come. Do something special so this day will stand our in our minds from all the rest. Ideally we would do this everyday, but I think people get so caught up in the routine of their everyday lives that they forget to make each day unique. For me, it’s all about thinking outside of the box. Doing something unconventional and creative, just for the sake of it. And when it comes to pushing the boundaries of the normal human mind my Dad is the pro. Today we went outside and he taught me how to balance rocks on their points using the earths magnetic poles to change up their gravity. Yes… you heard me. I spent the afternoon being taught how to stack rocks, and then used a whole roll of film taking pictures of these rock stacks. I must admit, I did forget to remove the lens cap for the first third of the roll, but that is a common mistake with beginners, right?
The picture you see above was snapped on my iPhone because I won’t be able to get the film back for a few days (I have to send it off to be developed), but I wanted you to be able to see one of our masterpieces. The second to lowest rock is balanced on it’s tip on the lowest rock, with smaller rocks on top. On top of this stack we balanced a stick that spun until it faced due North. Interesting, right? I even tested it against the compass on my iPhone, convinced my Dad was just playing with me, but no… it really stopped at exactly North.
Every time I am with my Dad he teaches me fascinating things. If you didn’t do anything unique or memorable today, maybe this post will inspire some of you to try your hand at rock stacking tomorrow.
